Pitot tubes

Today I did the first of two Pitot tubes. I can hear you say two?? Why?ย Might in the future add another speed measuring device…

First I created a little gusset plate, to go to one side of the of the tip of the 8th rib. Drilled a 1/4″ hole through the leading edge tube.ย Riveted the gusset plate to the rib. Bend the Pitot tube, positioned it between two rivets (sticking out this way) so it can’t go forward or backwards and finally used stainless steel locking wire to lock it in position. The locking wire is something I came up with at the last moment. I was going to create a little strip of aluminium shape it around the tube and rived it, but that was going to be to hard…..

Happy with the result !

Oh yes, the Pitot tube is just some aluminium 1/4″ 5052-0 tube, softer then all the other tubes, really easy to bend.

Safety harness support

Started working on the steel support structure for my safety harness. Its the part that will lift up the shoulder straps, to a point higher then my shoulders, to protect my spine in case of a crash….. ๐Ÿ™

The visible part is removable so that its not to ugly when looking at the plane when its “being shown” and not flown.

It was in the beginning of the year when I posted a question on the “Airdrome Aeroplanes Forum” about safety harnesses and how the shoulder straps should be mounted. Lots of reactions followed. So what you see here is my interpretation of the safest possible way of doing this.ย I finished mounting the “invisible” part. Now there is a bit of welding to be done and hopefully that will be ready in a few days so I can show you the final result.

Patience please !!

Ribs for aileron done

This week I prepared all the ribs for the aileron, and today I positioned them on the 1″ tube. Also bend the 1/2″ tube, the trailing edge tube, to create the nice rounding at the tip and riveted that to the junction with the 1″ tube.
So now the aileron is ready for riveting, to connect all the ribs to the aileron tubes. Should be done tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

Tip of aileron

Started with the aileron today. First the tip of it, see below….

And then there was an aileron !! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also today I started with the wing tip of the right wing. That’s almost done now.

My wife was impressed !!!! when she saw the wing as you see below !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mounted wingtip

Spend a few hours last Saturday using a tube bender, creating the 3rd dimension in the wing tip. When you see it , it looks horrible, but when in place its great.
Today I mounted the wing tip on the left wing.

Doesn’t look that great from here, will have to make another photo tomorrow from the back of the wing ๐Ÿ™‚

Below the wing tip seen from “here” ย ๐Ÿ™‚

And I just started to make the last rib. This will be shorter and thinner than all the other ones. Show you tomorrow.1410854370
